Chiesa dei Santi Quirico e Giulitta a Camnago

La Chiesa dei Santi Quirico e Giulitta si trova nel cuore del quartiere Camnago a Lentate sul Seveso, in provincia di Monza e Brianza. Costruita tra il 1913 e il 1915, l'edificio presenta una pianta a croce greca con tre navate separate da colonne e pilastri. La facciata è caratterizzata da un ampio portale con lunetta decorata a mosaico e una croce metallica al culmine. Nel 1924 è stato aggiunto il campanile, completando l'assetto architettonico della chiesa.

Nel corso dei secoli, la chiesa ha subito diverse modifiche e ampliamenti. Nel Cinquecento, l'antica parrocchiale dedicata ai santi Quirico, Giulitta e Solutore era ormai in rovina e fu demolita. La nuova chiesa, costruita presso villa Ravasi, ha assunto il titolo della precedente. All'interno si trovava anche il sepolcro di un ramo della famiglia Porro di Lentate, che aveva donato suppellettili in argento e conservava le reliquie di santi locali.

Commissioned in 1847 by Bartolomeo Merelli, a renowned impresario of La Scala opera house in Milan, the villa was constructed on the site of a 16th-century chapel dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian. The architecture is an eclectic blend, predominantly Gothic Revival, featuring an irregular layout and a facade with a peaked arched balcony adorned with statues. The complex includes a scenic tower and expansive gardens.

In 1883, the villa was acquired by Countess Giulia Viansson Pontè, wife of Alessandro Valdettaro, Marquis of Rocchetta. She employed the architect and landscaper Giuseppe Balzaretti to design and expand the gardens, creating sweeping landscapes that descend to the valley floor. These gardens, completed in the late 19th century, are characterized by terraced levels, a balustrade, and an exedra, showcasing Balzaretti's signature romantic style. Villa Valdettaro stands as a testament to 19th-century architectural and landscaping artistry, reflecting the cultural heritage of the region.

Parco delle Groane: A Natural Oasis in Camnago

Parco delle Groane is a regional park located in the upper plain of Lombardy, encompassing parts of 28 municipalities, including Lentate sul Seveso. Established in 1976 and expanded in 2017, the park covers over 8,000 hectares of diverse landscapes, including moorlands, forests, and agricultural areas.
